Replace this with your Artist Statement I am Lalith Senanayake, an artist and sculptor specializing in wildlife paintings and large-scale sculptures created from scrap metal and waste plastic. My work explores the relationship between nature and human responsibility, transforming disposable materials into expressive forms of animals and birds. Through this process, I aim to show the public how discarded waste can be given new life, inspiring conversations about environmental stewardship and creative sustainability.
Over the years, my art has been exhibited internationally in Australia, China, India, Singapore, and most recently in Kuwait. In 2016, I had the honour of attending an international conference on art and sculpture in London, an experience that further enriched my artistic vision. In 2023, I received an award at the prestigious London Art Biennale, a recognition that strengthened my commitment to creating meaningful, impactful work.
My sculptures have also been featured in significant public spaces. The city authorities of Chengdu in Sichuan Province, China, selected two of my works for installation in key locations, marking an important milestone in my career. In 2024, I created a giant moose sculpture for the Edmonton Expo Centre, a project that reflects both my scale of practice and my dedication to environmental art.
My mission is to bridge art, culture, and environmental awareness through creations that speak to global audiences while honouring my Sri Lankan heritage. Each sculpture is not only an artwork but a message — a reminder that what we discard can be transformed into something powerful, beautiful, and full of life.
